The Bible gives us the exact sign to look for when the Lord will appear. So let’s start with Matthew 24:29-30 “Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken; And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven”. This is when the Lord Jesus will appear in the heavens when the sun and the moon are darkened. The precept to this verse is Isaiah 60:1-2 “Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the Lord is risen upon thee. For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people: but the Lord shall arise upon thee, and his glory shall be seen upon thee”. This is when the Lord appears when the darkness covers the whole earth.
Note also what Isaiah says “his glory shall be seen upon thee”. What is that glory? The answer is in One John 3:2 “when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is”. This is when “the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall all be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality” of First Corinthians 15:52-53. This is when the dead are risen from the grave, and the living saints are given immortal bodies. To find out just when the sun and the moon are darkened will read Joel 3:14-16 “Multitudes, multitudes in the valley of decision: for the day of the Lord is near in the valley of decision. The sun and the moon shall be darkened, and the stars shall withdraw their shining. The Lord shall roar out of Zion, and utter his voice from Jerusalem; and the heavens and the earth shall be shaken: but the Lord shall be the hope of his people, and the strength of the children of Israel”.
The valley of decision is Armageddon and this is when the Lord will roar out of heaven. Let us also note that Joel tells us the Lord’s voice is uttered from Jerusalem. When the two witnesses are killed in the Jerusalem, Revelation 11:12 says this “And they heard a great voice from heaven saying unto them, Come up hither. Then in Revelation 11:13 says “And the same hour was there a great earthquake”. To find out what happens when this earthquake occurs we’ll go to Ezekiel 37: 7-9 “as I prophesied there was a noise, and behold a shaking [Hebrew word for earthquake], and the bones came together, bone to his bone. And when I beheld, lo, the sinews and the flesh came upon them, and the skin covered them above: but there was not breath in them. Come from the four winds, O breath, and breathe upon these slain, that they may live”. The four winds that put the spirit upon the dead are four winds of Mark 13:26 “And then shall he send his angels, and shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from the uttermost part of the earth to the uttermost part of heaven”. And when does this happen? Mark 13:24 “But in those days, after that tribulation, the sun shall be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light”.
